Emilio Gonzales and Alex Galik were able to continue on the pace Camacho set with a combined four innings of shutout relief. Gonzales struck out five batter in two innings while Galik struck out two.
The USSSA offense got off to a slow start, but still managed to produce six runs. Both Donnie Dewees and Brandon Cordell scored two runs apiece, while Matt Godinsky and Connor Crile both had an RBI to pace the USSSA offense.
The play of the day came in the bottom half of the ninth inning with a runner on third base. The Czech hitter popped a ball foul which brought multiple USSSA defenders to come crashing in. Catcher Jake Turley caught the ball in foul territory for the second out of the inning and quickly realized that nobody was covering home. With the runner from third racing towards the plate to score, Turley sprinted forward and dove head first to tag out the sliding runner just before reaching the plate. With the play, Turley not only got the last two outs of the inning, but secured the 6-2 win for USSSA.
USSSA’s next game will be tomorrow at 11 am central time against the Czech Republic Senior Naional Team.
